Football-Under 15 Schools Football Championship begins

The under 15 All Island Inter School Boys' and Girls' Football Championships 2013 kicked off on September 14 with the participation of over 9000 students with preliminary round matches at 30 centres island wide.

The tournament sponsored by Samaposha , the leading cereal brand of Plenty Foods (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits limited (CBL) has s for the fifth consecutive year and organized by the Sri Lanka Football Federation and Sri Lanka Schools Football Federation will open doors to 480 boys' teams and 120 girls' teams from 600 schools to display their talents.

Zahira College Colombo who emerged boys' champions last year will no doubt give a good challenge to other schools and try to retain their title. Maliyadeva Vidyalaya , defending girls champions will face stiff challenge from other schools and will be a competitive season this year.

There are two centres in Kilinochchi and Mulativu districts for the first time, supporting the raw talent in the Northern province. The grand finale, which will feature the top 21 teams, will be held on October 11, 12 and 13 . The finals will also see awards presented to the best goalkeeper and most valuable male and female player of the tournament.

Speaking on the event history and details Sri Lanka Schools Football Federation president U G Ariyaratne said that The under 15 inter-school tournament, was a friendly, yet competitive event organized to identify budding football stars. This tournament gave us the opportunity to support young enthusiastic athletes to compete at their highest potential.

We are grateful to Plenty Foods team, for supporting and giving thousands of school children around the island the opportunity to exhibit their talents he also mentioned. He also had better hopes for the future of schools football as this year the tournament is organized in collaboration with the FFSL.
