Hockey-Wesley and Janadhipathi BV take hockey titles

Wesley College Colombo and Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya Nawala bagged the boys and girls championships of the Blue and Gold Hockey Sevens tournament organized by Royal College Hockey Club which concluded at Reid Avenue recently.

Wesleyites outplayed Vijaya College Matale by three goals to nil to emerge victorious and the new comers Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya Nawala came out winners with a two nil win over Musaeus College Colombo .

The boys final seemed to be a one sided affair as the lads from Campbell Park took the lead through a goal by Aaqil Azmi followed by beautiful goal scored by Nihaad Nazoor to give them a good 2 – 0 lead before the lemons.

The lads from Matale missed the golden opportunities of scoring in through out the match and their strokes at goal through short and long corners were sent astray. The resumption saw the Wesleyites holding their opponents under pressure and increased their lead through a goal by their gamechanger Imad Muzammil to make it 3 – 0 win for the Campbell Park lads.

Earlier , Janadhipathi BV lasses who were in a tough situation to outplay Musaeus College where they led 1 – 0 at half time reduced the deficit when they scored another goal in the second half.
