Asian Para games-Largest Asian Para Games to Open in Incheon today

Incheon. October 18, 2014, By Hishan Welmilla.The 2014 Asian Para Games will begin with the opening ceremony at Munhak Stadium in Incheon Today. The year's event will bring some 6,000 athletes and officials from 41 countries together, the largest ever. 

An Opening Ceremony in the Munhak Sports Complex, themed "Impossible Drives Us" it has been revealed. 

The Ceremony will consist of four scenes with a total of 1,500 impaired and able-bodied performers taking part.

"I would like to focus on human beings' purest passion and creativity beyond the "impossibility" and celebrate the lives and challenges of them," said Kolleen Park, executive director of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. 

The two Ceremonies will cost KRW6 billion (£3.5 million/$5.5 million/€4.5 million) out of the Games' total budget of KRW79.9 billion (£47 million/$75 million/€58.5 million).

Under Park's leadership, Yoo Joon-gyu, chief director, Yoo Mi-jin, costume director, and Cha Jin-yeop, choreographer, have been responsible for the production of the Ceremonies.

The Asian Paralympic Committee have confirmed that the only celebrity due to perform at the Ceremony is native K-pop singer Kim Tae-woo.

Approximately 4,500 athletes from 42 countries will be competing in 23 sports at this year's event.

Among the 23 disciplines, 19 are also official events at the Paralympic Games. The badminton, bowling, lawn bowling, and wheelchair dance events are unique to the Asian Para Games. 

North Korea sent a 30-member delegation, including nine athletes to compete in four disciplines, to the Games for the first time. 

The South Korean team entered the athletes' village on Thursday. The host country will field 335 athletes in all 23 disciplines, and aims to finish second by winning more than 50 gold medals.

South Korea placed third at the 2010 event in Guangzhou with 27 gold, 43 silver and 33 bronze medals. 

Among the 23 disciplines, 19 are also official events at the Paralympic Games. The badminton, bowling, lawn bowling, and wheelchair dance events are unique to the Asian Para Games. 

There are about 440 gold medals at stake at this year's event.  

"I hope people are as interested in the games for disabled athletes as in other sporting events, and cheer for athletes from all countries," said Kim Sung-il, head of the event's organizing committee.

Cricket is a game of fine margins and Mathews is set to be a modern great. Hang in their Angie, this team can achieve something on this tour. Thirimane and the youngsters form was a real positive.
