D.S. Senanayake Champions!

CTSports: An astonishing knock of 167 runs in 103 balls from Ananda College captain, Sammu Ashan, could not prevent D.S.Senanayake College from winning the 'Singer Cup' Under 19 All island inter schools limited overs title, as DS claimed a 42-run win in the final worked off at P. Sara Oval yesterday.

Ananda were struggling from the start in the run chase of 318, but right-handed Ashan kept them in the hunt despite losing wickets at the other end, until he was finally dislodged for a staggering 167 which was spiced with 17 fours and nine maximums.
This will be remembered as one of the finest innings played by a schoolboy cricketer in this neck of the woods, who in fact promises a lot for the future of Sri Lanka Cricket.

DS meanwhile would be over the moon that they sealed a match that was drifting away from them. After being inserted, they made 317 all out at the end of 50 overs with opener Thimila Vidyasekara top scoring with a workmanlike 62.
Vidyasekara's innings came off 62 balls and consisted of nine boundaries and a six. He along with Kaveen Bandara added 58 runs for the opening wicket. Then further contributions from Uvin Bandara (36), Visal Amugoda (40) and Torrin Pitigala (49) saw them piling up 317.

DS captain Harith Maduwantha was easily the pick of the bowlers for his side as he took three wickets for 48 runs, while Sachin Bandara and Ravin de Silva chipped in with two wickets each.

QUESTION?

Should Dilshan have continued until Cricket World Cup 2019?

Yes No
THE DAY'S QUOTE

“That was pathetic. No excuse at all. The whole team is responsible. Whoever the captain is, we have to back him and try and support him. The captain has to do so many other stuff. All the 11 guys must back him and support him.” “We have addressed the issue of finishing off the overs on time in the past as well, but it cropped up again. It’s so unfortunate to see Upul going out as he is a crucial player in our set up. He batted well against South Africa and it’s so unfortunate. This can’t happen again,” - Angelo Mathews

FEEDBACK/COMMENTS

Cricket is a game of fine margins and Mathews is set to be a modern great. Hang in their Angie, this team can achieve something on this tour. Thirimane and the youngsters form was a real positive. Prasad was missed. Chameera should be persisted with. If Bairstow was our early outcome could have been very different.
