Ashan Silva bags Sri Lanka's top motor racers' championship

Ashan Silva, one of Sri Lanka’s top motor racers once again demonstrated his credentials by bagging the National Championship award at the recently concluded SLAS (Sri Lanka Automobile Sports) Championship awards.

Celebrating the end of a tight motor racing season, Silva claimed two awards for the SLGT Supercars upto 3500cc event in both Gravel and Tarmac categories. The SLGT 3500cc event being one of the fastest in Sri Lanka, is also the most watched. This is also a rare instance where one driver has claimed victory over multiple categories in this particular event.

Competition in the recently concluded season was exceptionally tough, as every single point was imperative to winning the Championship. The prominence given to motor racing recently has also resulted in an increase in its popularity and has seen a number of new drivers entering the tracks. However, Silva was able to maintain his record as the fastest driver on multiple instances.

Ashan’s stellar track record last  year led him to victory of four Championships in 2015 alone including the National Gravel Championship, National Tarmac Championship, SLADA Championship , CEAT SLADAR SPEED Championship for SLGT cars upto 3500cc thus retaining his title as the Best Driver in Sri Lanka.

Over the course of the years, his unbeaten track record was witnessed all over the island, namely at; Foxhill Super Cross, Gajaba Super Cross, Gunners Super Cross, Walawe Super Cross, Katukurunda Tarmac Circuit, Pannala Tarmac Circuit, Cavalry Super Cross and Sigiriya Super Cross, winning on consecutive occasions and also creating the benchmark by setting new lap records in most.

His ability to effortlessly maneuver his machine has gained him quite the fan base- eagerly watching the circuits in both local grounds and off! His passion for racing has allowed him to return this favour continuously as he provides his followers with the thrill and adrenaline while beating his opponents on the tracks.

Ashan has an unbeaten track record over the past few years, including an impressive 21 championship wins, thus making him one of Sri Lanka’s Best Drivers. These records have helped him gain the recognition and Main Sponsorship of Causeway Paints (Pvt) Ltd while a number of Co-sponsors including Magini Holdings, Prime Colours, Doctor Auto, Tokimo and Mobil Lubricants , continue to support him in his career.

QUESTION?

Should Dilshan have continued until Cricket World Cup 2019?

Yes No
THE DAY'S QUOTE

“That was pathetic. No excuse at all. The whole team is responsible. Whoever the captain is, we have to back him and try and support him. The captain has to do so many other stuff. All the 11 guys must back him and support him.” “We have addressed the issue of finishing off the overs on time in the past as well, but it cropped up again. It’s so unfortunate to see Upul going out as he is a crucial player in our set up. He batted well against South Africa and it’s so unfortunate. This can’t happen again,” - Angelo Mathews

FEEDBACK/COMMENTS

Cricket is a game of fine margins and Mathews is set to be a modern great. Hang in their Angie, this team can achieve something on this tour. Thirimane and the youngsters form was a real positive. Prasad was missed. Chameera should be persisted with. If Bairstow was our early outcome could have been very different.
