LSR to organise Sri Lanka T-CUP International Cycling event in April

Lanka Sportreizen being a leader in organizing Water & Nature based Sports Activities with the objective of boosting the image of Sri Lanka as a destination for Recreational Activities has an unblemished record over the past three decades for organizing and conducting different events.

Going down memory lane some of the events they have authored include theLSRColombo Marathon, “Rumble in the Jungle” – Mountain Biking Challenge, “ Vittel Amazon” Adventure Challenge, “SriLankan Pro Surf – WQS” – International Surfing Event etc.

Travelling around the world for tourism promotional purposes, it has been witnessed that Cycling is one of the most popular activities which is practiced by a vast majority around the world, irrespective of the age.

Furthermore, it has been noted that, due to the rigorous nature of Mountain Biking there are people who are not desirous of taking part in such events and are very keen on using Racing Bicycles.

In an effort to introduce a new event which has a mass volume of followers, LSR has planned to hold a Cycling Event in which the professionals who are keen on Racing Cycling could take part and in the process enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka, experience the challenging terrain and get to know the lesser known areas of Sri Lanka in a “Coast to Coast” Exercise spanning from the East to the West.

Main Objectives of the Event

  1. To boost further the image of Sri Lanka as a safe and secure tourist destination where people live in harmony.

  1. To promote Sri Lanka as an ideal destination for Recreational Activities including Cycling which is very popular in European as well as Asian countries.

  1. Within the next few years, to receive recognition and registration for this Event with the Union Cycliste Internationale as an Annual Cycling Event in Sri Lanka with the blessings of Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC).

  1. To unearth the talent of the Sri Lankans by providing an opportunity to ride alongside International Riders.

It is their intention to expose the lesser known areas of Sri Lanka which is reawakening due to the development of tourism using the best known icon for Sri Lanka, Tea.

Thus, it is proposed to name the event as the T-Cup run from Passikudah which has developed due to tourism located in the East of Sri Lanka to the well-known Negombo which is in the West Coast. Hence it will be a “Coast to Coast” Exercise.

This Event will be conducted by a panel of reputed UCI accredited International Comissaires with the blessings of the Ministry of Sports & the support of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka.

The race will commence from the Marina Hotel in the National Holiday Resort in Passikudah and will run through Mahiyangana and Kandy to the City of Negombo.

QUESTION?

Should Dilshan have continued until Cricket World Cup 2019?

Yes No
THE DAY'S QUOTE

“That was pathetic. No excuse at all. The whole team is responsible. Whoever the captain is, we have to back him and try and support him. The captain has to do so many other stuff. All the 11 guys must back him and support him.” “We have addressed the issue of finishing off the overs on time in the past as well, but it cropped up again. It’s so unfortunate to see Upul going out as he is a crucial player in our set up. He batted well against South Africa and it’s so unfortunate. This can’t happen again,” - Angelo Mathews

FEEDBACK/COMMENTS

Cricket is a game of fine margins and Mathews is set to be a modern great. Hang in their Angie, this team can achieve something on this tour. Thirimane and the youngsters form was a real positive. Prasad was missed. Chameera should be persisted with. If Bairstow was our early outcome could have been very different.
