Dilhara selected for Commonwealth Chess C’ship

Dilhara Ishini Wickramasinghe of Musaeus College has been selected as the official player in the open women's category to represent Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Chess Championship, to be held in New Delhi from 2 to 11 July.


Dilhara has represented Sri Lanka at various tournaments abroad. She was the official player in the Under-18 category at the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2017 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

She has also represented Sri Lanka in the Under-16 category at the West Asian Youth Chess Championship held in Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates from 23 to 30 December 2016. She had been in the UAE before at the Asian Nations Cup 2016, held in Abu Dhabi from 27 March to 8 April.

She played in the national team at the 42nd World Chess Olympiad held in Baku in Azerbaijan from 1 to 14 September 2016 and represented Sri Lanka as the official player in the Under-18 age category at the Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Waskaduwa from 30 July to 7 August 2016, and became the runner up.

In 2014, at the 10th Asian Schools Chess Championship held in Taichung, Taiwan, young Dilhara was offered the Women's FIDE Master Title by the World Chess Federation for her excellent performance in international events.
