Cooray to run in London Marathon

Marathoner Anuradha Indrajith Cooray yesterday took another step towards the Olympics as his entry for April’s London Marathon was accepted. Cooray, 33, missed the Olympic qualifying standard by just 42 seconds when he clocked 2 hours, 18 minutes and 42 seconds to be placed 10th in the Pune Marathon in December.

He now hopes to better his performance in London, so that he will book his place in the sport’s most spectacular event also to be held in London in July. The officials here as well as Cooray’s coach at Vale of Aylesbury Athletics Club in England where he has been in training are hopeful he will make it in London.

Nick Taylor, said considering the conditions and preparation for the Pune race in India hitting that target in London should not prove difficult. “He was running in 36-degrees temperatures with little preparation. He missed out on the time by 42 seconds having only been off the plane a couple of days,” Taylor told the reporters.

QUESTION?

Should Dilshan have continued until Cricket World Cup 2019?

Yes No
THE DAY'S QUOTE

“That was pathetic. No excuse at all. The whole team is responsible. Whoever the captain is, we have to back him and try and support him. The captain has to do so many other stuff. All the 11 guys must back him and support him.” “We have addressed the issue of finishing off the overs on time in the past as well, but it cropped up again. It’s so unfortunate to see Upul going out as he is a crucial player in our set up. He batted well against South Africa and it’s so unfortunate. This can’t happen again,” - Angelo Mathews

FEEDBACK/COMMENTS

Cricket is a game of fine margins and Mathews is set to be a modern great. Hang in their Angie, this team can achieve something on this tour. Thirimane and the youngsters form was a real positive. Prasad was missed. Chameera should be persisted with. If Bairstow was our early outcome could have been very different.
