Tennis-Chandrakumara wins ‘over-35’ singles

U.V.N. Chandrakumara fought fiercely and clinched the men’s over 35 singles title in the 97th Colombo Tennis Championship beating S.Sudarshana in the final (7/6(6), 6/3) which worked off at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts, Colombo yesterday.

The semi finals of the women’s singles were won by Shankari Thayakaran who beat Roshenka Fernando (7/5, 6/1) and Amritha Muttiah who outplayed Nethmi Waduge (6/2, 6/3).

The semi finals of the boys under-14 mixed doubles won by Viranka Fernando along with Nabeel Sabri by beating Shivanka Silva and Pavan Wickramaratne(6/0,6/3) while Joshua Jayaratne with Krishanthan Rajendransingham entered the finals when they beat Andrew Muttiah and Aadhawan Pushparaj (6/4, 6/4) The tournament started on July 15 and it is sponsored by Bharti Airtel Lanka Ltd.

Amresh Jayawickrama beat M.A.Shaakir (6/2,6/0)

Cricket is a game of fine margins and Mathews is set to be a modern great. Hang in their Angie, this team can achieve something on this tour. Thirimane and the youngsters form was a real positive. Prasad was missed. Chameera should be persisted with. If Bairstow was our early outcome could have been very different.
