Lumbini take Platinum Trophy in inter school futsal

Lumbini College, Colombo walked away with the Platinum trophy when they beat the host school Hameed Al Husseinie College, Colombo (10) in the Inter School Invitation Futsal Tournament Platinum final at the Sugathadasa Stadium junior ground on Sunday. The tournament was conducted by the Group of 80s’ of the Hameed Al Husseinie College.

M.N.M. Nifras of Al Husseinie College was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament and awarded the ‘Golden Boot’ award for his excellent performance throughout the tournament.

Lumbini College goal keeper M.N. Heshan De Costa was awarded the ‘Golden Glove’ trophy for winning the Best Goal Keeper shield of the tournament. K. Sajitharan of Hindu College who netted eight goals in the tournament was given the Highest Goal Scorer award.

An exciting game was showcased in the Gold category final match between De Mazenod College, Kandana and Hindu College, Colombo where the Mazedonians clinched the cup on penalty shoots (3-2) as both teams scored equal one point after the standard full time.

The Silver Cup final was won by the Wesley College, Colombo beating St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya (2-0).

Wesleyites dominated the match from the beginning and never allowed the opponents to score a goal.

The fifth edition of the annual football fiesta has been concluded on a grand note with 14 teams taking part out of 16 confirmed schools.

Due to the renovation of the Sugathadasa main stadium the event has been shifted to the junior ground and converted into the shorter version (Futsal) of the sport.


Platinum final

Winner - Lumbini College, Colombo. Runner up - Hameed Al Husseinie College, Colombo.

Gold final

Winner - De Mazenod College, Kandana. Runner up - Hindu College, Colombo.

Silver final

Winner - Wesley College, Colombo. Runner up - St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya.

Special Awards

Best Player of the tournament - M.N.M. Nifras (Hameed Al Husseinie College)

Best Goal Keeper of the tournament - M.N. Heshan De Costa (Lumbini College)

Highest Goal Scorer of the tournament - K. Sajitharan (Hindu College)
