SAG2010-Going Beyond Boundaries
By Hishan Welmilla in Dhaka

Fatema, MG Kader, Miraz and Farzana at SAG Media Centre The 11th edition of the South Asian Games is ready to get underway in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

Some 1800 athletes and 700 officials are expected to take part in the 23 disciplines of sports for the 158 gold medals at stake at 20 venues.

As in every major sporting event in the world the people who work unnoticed play a vital role to keep the momentum of the Games and run it without any interruption.

The volunteers who work round the clock will no doubt provide an opportunity for the eyes of the world to focus on Bangladesh for their hospitality and efficiency during the 14 day event.

This also paves the way to overcome cultural and other barriers of the people of the SAARC region and build peace and harmony.

There are many young energetic girls and boys who have committed and dedicated themselves to provide an excellent service to all the Media personnel who have arrived here to provide coverage and take the Games to the world.

South Asian Games is a major multi-sport event, scheduled to take place from January 29 to February 8, 2010 in Dhaka Bangladesh. This will be the third time that the Bangladeshi capital hosts the Games, thus becoming the 4th city to host the Games multiple times (after Colombo, Kathmandu and Islamabad). It is expected to be the largest sporting event in Bangladesh and in South Asia, eclipsed only by the upcoming 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi, India
