08 February 2010. Fathima Keshi Suhail took Sri Lanka’s gold medal count at the 11th South Asian Games here in Dhaka, Bangladesh today.
Fathima competed in women’s under 57 Teakwondo event and beat Nepal opponent to give Sri Lanka’s first gold medal in the sport this year.
Fathima’s inclusion to the Sri Lanka Teakwondo team has taken a controversial affair as the Manager of the team opposing to her representation of the country. But the Coach has decided to give her chance and it has paid the dividends by taking the gold.
The Manger of the team accused her that she has not taken part in the selection trials and was totally work against her to the last minute to avoid her participation sighting that she has come from abroad to take part in SAG 2010.
In Men’s 87kg Sri Lanka’s Ravindra Rajapaksha won a silver medal. He lost to India’s Sandeep Kandu by 03-06 points
Meanwhile Gayathri Sandamali took a bronze medal in Women’s under 53kg category.
