St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo made a remarkable recovery during the dying stage of a thrilling game to beat Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena by two points to secure their semi-final berth in the Under-17 Colombo North Zonal Girls Basketball Tournament against Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo. The semi-final will get under way today at St. Paul’s College premises at Milagiriya at 3.00 pm.
St. Bridget’s who were trailing by nine points just five minutes to go for the final whistle did well to fight back to record their ultimate scorer of 73 against St. Bridget’s 71 points. St. Bridget’s Convent, riding on Swairie Fernando’s 46 did a late recovery just in time while her team mate Shanelle Perera played a supporting hand netting 22 points during yesterday’s final group match played at Kotahena.
Holy Family Convent, Bamabalapitiya had a great run in this tournament and they will take on St. Paul’s Miligiriya in their semi-final which will start at 4.30 pm at Milagiriya.
Nine teams participated in the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Association organised tournament which will conclude on Wednesday. (RS)
