Favourite Mithun Perera put up a fine performance to clinch the overall title at the Sri Lanka open amateur golf championships which concluded at the Royal Colombo Golf Club yesterday.
Perera finished with the best gross scores from the four rounds while using the first round handicaps to good affect. He had a score of 272 and finished ahead of the runner up Mohamed Jukiruzzman from Bangladesh (288).
Malaysian Chan Tuck Soon with a score of 289 was placed third in this event which was sponsored by Etisalat.
Mithun Perera stated that he is hoping to win a gold medal at the up coming Asian Games in China while following in the footsteps of his father who clinched a gold medal at the 1990 Asian Games
