St.Joseph College winger Sachith Silva scored 24 points inclusive of one try, five penalties and two conversions to take the Joes to a 34 points (3 tries, 2 conversions, 5 penalties) to 12 (2 tries, 1 conversion) win over Dharmaraja College Kandy to enter the final of the Milo ‘A’ Division schools knock out rugby semi final match played at Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.
The winners were leading 16 points to 5 at half time.
The Josephians entertained the crowd with a superb display of running rugby by opening out the game through their speedy three quartets during the entire match. Their forwards also combined well to play an excellent game gaining lot of possession in the set pieces and almost in all their line outs as well. For the winners winger Sachith Silva,, fly half Chathura Seneviratne and winger cum captain Vinul Fernando scored atry each while the five penalties and the two conversions were also fired across by winger Sachith Silva.
For the Rajans second row forward K.B.Ekanayaka and burly centre Bhavantha Udangamuwa scored a try each for the losing Rajans and full back Deshapriya put over the solitary conversion.
With this win the Joes for the first time in their rugby history entered the all important final to be played next Saturday ( 24th June) at the Race Course International Stadium under flood lights.
