T10 Cricket League – Sharjah

Top international stars to descend on Sharjah for T10 Cricket League.

Several current and former international stars will assemble in Sharjah for the T10 Cricket League set to be played from December 14 to December 17. The six teams – Maratha Arabians, Pakhtoon, Punjab Legends, Kerala Kings, Bengal Tigers and Team Sri Lanka Cricket – will compete to win the inaugural edition.

Mohammad Amir became the first player to be picked in the draft held on November 6 when the Arabians snapped him. While the Arabians chose Virender Sehwag as their icon players, the Lions are banking on Sarfraz Ahmed to win them the tournament. England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan was named the icon player for Kings. Shahid Afridi will be with Pakhtoon while Shoaib Malik will play for Legends. The sixth team – Team Sri Lanka Cricket – will be made up of players from Colombo, who won the domestic limited-overs tournament, and will be led by Dinesh Chandimal. The Sri Lanka Test captain though might have to miss the tournament if he’s picked in the One-Day International squad for the three-match series in India.

Kumar Sangakkara, who continued to pile on the runs in the domestic circuit after international retirement, will play for the Arabians, a side that also includes Imad Wasim, Alex Hales, Lendl Simmons, Mohammad Sami and Kamran Akmal.

Pakhtoon bagged strong openers with Fakhar Zaman and Tamim Iqbal joining their line-up and will also field a strong bowling attack with Umar Gul, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Irfan and Junaid Khan in the ranks. Darren Sammy will play for Tigers and will have the company of Windies players Sunil Narine, Rovman Powell, Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles.

Umar Akmal, Mishab ul Haq, Carlos Brathwaite, Hasan Ali, Adil Rashid and Rangana Herath were picked up by Legends as they invested in bowlers in the compact format. There were several United Arab Emirates players also picked in the draft with Rohan Mustafa, Shaiman Anwar, Imran Haider and Amjad Javed being a few from the 27 players included in the draft.

The matches in the tournament will last just 90 minutes and will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Ground.
