The right and left arm spin combination of skipper Savindu Peiris and Kaumal Nanayakkara helped Prince of Wales coast to an innings and 11 run win over St Peter’s in the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Moratuwa yesterday.

The pair ended with match bags of eight wickets each as they wrecked the Peterite batting in the two innings. Kaumal ran through the Peterite batting in the first innings with a five wicket haul while Savindu wrecked their batting in the second innings with a six wicket haul to bowl them out for scores of 124 and 164 runs respectively.

In addition the Cambrians batsman frustrated the Peterite bowlers spearheaded by Sri Lanka youth player Vishwa Chathuranga who made a quick fire 96 off 125 balls with 21 boundaries and three sixes. He was involved in two fruitful partnerships– first an opening wicket stand of 87 runs with Sandun Fernando and then 86 runs for the second with Prince Fernando. Cambrians resuming from their overnight score of 282 for 5 to made 299 for 8 declared in the morning session of play on day two.

Nalanda too completed an innings and five run win against Dharmapala Pannipitiya which ended at Campbell Place. Dharmapala continued their second innings from their overnight score of 12 for 1. Needing a further 157 runs to avoid an innings defeat Dharmapala were bowled out for 164 runs.

There were two other outright wins recorded on the second day before the tea break with Maliyadeva overcoming Zahira by five wickets at Maradana and Lyceum International School Wattala recording a comfortable innings and 55 run win over Vijitha Central Dickwella at Dickwella.

Meanwhile Wesley and Ananda were on top against S. Thomas’ and Royal in the matches that were in progress at Campbell Park and Reid Avenue.
