Athletes get prior training for Commonwealth Games 2018

A team of eight athletes from Sri Lanka left the island yesterday for Gold Coast in Australia for training sessions before the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018, which will kick off on 4 April.

The team comprised Dilhani Lekamge (javelin), Sampath Ranasinghe (javelin), Janaka Wimalasiri (long jump), along with 4x100m relay team members, Himasha Eshan, Suranjaya de Silva, Shehan Ambepitiya, Mohamed Ashraffand Sumesh Wickramasinghe.

Gayanthika Abeyratne and Nimali Liyanarachchi, Coach Sajith Jayalal and Luiz Miranda will leave the island at the end of this month while Hiruni Wijayaratne, who lives and trains in the USA, will also join the team at the end of the month. Sprinter Rumeshika Ratnayaka and high jumper Manjula Kumara Wijesekara are already training in Australia. (SJ)
