Sri Lanka’s Commonwealth Games 2018 team leader and medal prospect Chinthana Vithanage failed to deliver in his weightlifting Men’s 77kg category as he finished fifth in the final of the event this morning in Australia. The event was won by India’s Sathis Kumar while England’s Jack Oliver and Australia’s Francois Ethaondi grabbed the other two medals respectively.
Sri Lanka also narrowly missed another two medals in weightlifing with two of their athletes finishing fourth.
Competing in the men’s 62kg category event final, Sri Lanka’s Thilanka Wiraj was unlucky to have missed a medal as he finished fourth with only three points behind of Pakistan’s Talha Talib.
Chamari Warnakulasuriya was 10 points behind to win a medal as she finished fourth in the Womenìs 53kg category event.
Competing in the Womenìs 58kg Sri Lanka’s Nadeeshani finished 10th.
However, Sri Lanka had already won 3 medals in the sport so far at Commonwealth Games, the only medals adding to its tally in the event.
