Sri Lanka’s cricketers will head to Kandy on Wednesday (May 9) to begin a week-long training camp ahead of team’s tour to the West Indies.
The national team will leave to West Indies on May 25 to play three Test matches–their first tour to the Caribbeans in 10 years.
The training camp will be held at the Pallekele training center and will conclude on May 16.
The first Test begins on June 6 in Port of Spain followed by second Test in St. Lucia on June 14 and the third on June 23 in Barbados.
The national cricketers are among those domestic players currently honing their skills in the Super Fours Provincial tournament but expect to join the national team training on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka recorded their first-ever Test victory against West Indies during their last tour to the Caribbeans in 2008 but hosts fought back to level the two-match series 1-all in the second match.
The selectors are yet to name the touring squad.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Cricket has hired two Australians–Tim McCaskil and Peter Sleep as fast bowling and spin bowling consultants ahead of the tour.
They expect to join the training camp in Kandy.
While McCaskil–the high performance manager of Victoria Cricket will work with fast bowlers and coaches during his two-week stint, Sleep–a former wrist spinner will help spinners and coaches.
With team manager Asanka Gurusinha taking over as Chief Cricket Operations Officer, SLC is yet to name a replacement.
