The St.Peters College Bambalapitiya ruggerites led by theiir inspirational play maker cum full back Shehan Liyanapathirana (who is a former Sri Lanka under 19 football captain who scored 10 points) made a superb second half rally, where they came back after the scores read 7 all at lemons to beat Kingswood College Kandy by 20 points ( 2 tries, 2 conversions, 2 penalties) to 10 ( 1 try, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) in their Singer ‘A’ Division inter-schools league rugby second round match played at Havelock Park in Colombo yesterday.
Both teams dished out a good game but were unable to play open rugby due to heavy rain in the first quarter but the Peterites was the pick of the lot with their young forwards of Abdulla Fais, Julian Charles, Nizran Nillar, the Fernando trio along with fly half Kenneth Wimaladasa, Jason Karunaratne, two Madusanka’s and Shehan Liyanapathirana had an outstanding game in both attack and defence..
Kingswood staged a spirited performance in the latter stage of the first half to equal the score and went in to the half time with the scores reading 7 points all. Winning St.Peters College scored their two tries through flanker Yohan Fernando (one), and prop forward Julian Charles (one) while Liyanapathirana put over both conversions, as well as the two penalties for the winners.
For the losing Kingswood College scrum half Hirusha Sampath scored the solitary try, put over the conversion and slotted in a penalty. The final score stood at St.Peters 20 points to Kingswood 10.
