Sri Lanka won the invitational netball tournament when they defeated Asian champs Singapore 72-70 in a closely contested final played at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium yesterday. The winners led 41-34 at half time.
Sri Lanka dominated from the 1st quarter where they led 21-18 despite heavy opposition from Singapore. Sri Lanka made some passing errors but continued to hold onto the lead when they won second quarter as well 20-16.
Singapore came back strongly to win the third quarter 19-15. The fourth quarter was evenly contested and won by Singapore 17-16 but Sri Lanka’s early lead on points in the first half saw them home by a wafer thin two-point margin.
In the third places play-off Sri Lanka Development pool beat Pstar Netball team from England 80-22 after leading 46-8 at half time.
Sri Lanka Development pool dominated all four quarters winning 25-4, 21-4, 19-7 and 15-7.
