Minister appoints Sports Secretary as Competent Authority to SLC

Sports Minister Faizer Mustafa announced on Thursday evening (May 31) that he had appointed Mr Kamal Padmasiri, the secretary to the Ministry of Provincial Councils, Local Government and Sports, as the Competent Authority to the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket.

 

Sri Lankan court ruled on Wednesday that it adjourned indefinitely the Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Cricket, which was scheduled to elect new office bearers for the next two years. The court will sit up on June 14 to examine the petition filed by a contestant Nishantha Ranathunga.

 

Hence, the sports minister, in his capacity and within legal framework, had asked the ministerial secretary to take on the administration and hope that the transition will be seamless, since the term of the incumbent officials were expiring on May 31. Sport Minister also looks forward to conducting a free and fair election to appoint appropriate office bearers to the SLC as soon as possible.

Meanwhile Minister Mustsfa said his Secretary is very clever and hard working person and he knows how to manage all kind of work to a proper plan. From tomorrow (June 01) Sport Secretary will assume duties in Sri Lanka Cricket while SLC Chief Executive officer Ashley de Silva also in charge of SLC office duties.

Sport Secretary Kamal Padmasiri who was the former GA of Colombo said during the Government elections he had to face more difficulties but all duties were carried out properly and confidently. Cricket is a very popular game in Sri Lanka and thanked the Sports Minister Faizer for giving big responsibility to build up SLC Cricket.
