Discipline is important during matches says Minister Mustafa unveiling Rugby 7s

The Dialog Rugby club 7’s conducted by the Sri  Lanka Rugby Union is now in progress at the Racecourse grounds Reid Avenue Colombo 07. This time twenty teams are battlling each other to take the Dialog 7s championship  said Vice President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Union Lasitha Gunaratna..

The tournament consist Cup, Plate, and Shield Championship during the next two weeks which kciked off on Saturday June 2. The first leg kicked off at Race course grounds this weekend while second leg and the final leg of the tournament will commence on 16/17 June at the same venue.

Sport Minister Faizer Mustafa said Rugby is very popular and it’s a fashion for all today. But Discipline is more important during the game.

“The school rugby encounter between Royal and Wesley at Reid Avenue  ended with very ugly incident. As a Minister I had to take very tough decision to postpone all school rugby matches for a one week time. I knew the schools league tournament almost finished but the last few matches are very important to get final decision to win the league championship.” said the Minister.

This year the rugby season has shown increasing spectator interest and both young and old who really enjoy fast and furious rugby action. Sri Lanka rugby leading clubs Kandy SC who won both league and knock out titles continuously, Havelocks SC, CH&FC, CR&FC, Army, Navy, Airforce, Police SC are expected to field two teams while thier respective women’s team also will compete this same tournament. Peterson SC, Galle RFC and Sabaragamuwa SC  have to compete with top teams for their exposure.

Dialod Axiata Pvt Ltd Chief  Marketing Director Amali Nanayakkara said thay are very keen to associate with SLRFU to conduct this tournament.. This tournament always make carnival atmosphere and grand finals will be worked off on 17th June at the Race cource grounds.
