SL batters score heavily in Caribbean tour warm-up match

Sri Lanka drew their three-day cricket match against the West Indies Board President’s X1 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Friday.

Sri Lanka recovered from losing Kusal Mendis to the first ball of the match to post a first day total of 318 for six wickets in their 3-day tour match against a Cricket West Indies President’s XI at Brian Lara cricket ground here on Wednesday.

Skipper Dinesh Chandimal who won the toss and decided to bat first showed early form on the tour with a brilliant century that helped Sri Lanka to their total.

Chandimal who hit six fours and three sixes in his 216-ball innings shared a second wicket stand of 130 with Kusal Perera who opened the innings and scored 65 off 93 balls with 10 fours and one six before falling to the off-spin of Rahkeem Cornwall.

Chandimal figured in another century partnership of 114 with former captain Angelo Mathews before being dismissed falling to the left-arm pace of Raymon Reifer.

Mathews spent 152 minutes at the crease for 41 before Cornwall trapped him lbw.

Sri Lanka lost Roshen Silva for 28 and Dilruwan Perera for 17, but Niroshan Dickwella hung around for 63 balls to score a patient 26 not out by stumps.

This is the only practice game for Sri Lanka before they take on West Indies in a three-Test series starting at Port-of-Spain, Trinidad on June 6.
