Sri Lanka thrash Malaysia by 90 runs for second successive win

Sri Lanka Women swept to their second successive win in the Women’s Asia Cup following an emphatic 90-run triumph over hosts Malaysia on Monday at the Royal Selangor Club Grounds, Kuala Lumpur.

The Sri Lankan lasses batting first having won the toss thumped 136 for just 3 wickets in 20 overs before putting the brakes on their Malaysian counterparts who were reeling on 46 for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Yasoda Mendis top scored with 36 off 29 balls inclusive of 4 boundaries and a six while Hasini Perera was equally game to the task unbeaten on 32 off 27 piercing the boundary on four occasions. Other run contributors were Anushka Sanjeewani 26 off 25 containing 4 boundaries and Nipuni Hansika 20.

With this success Sri Lanka Women with 4 points from two wins were placed second in the points table next to reigning champions India who also collected 4 points from two wins on a faster net run rate; Sri Lanka 3.072 as against India’s 5.200. The Player of the Match was Nilakshi de Silva who claimed 3 for 13. Skipper Shashikala Siriwardene took 2 for 12.

In their opening match Sri Lanka Women beat Bangladesh Women by 7 wickets scoring 64 for 3 in 14.3 overs having shot out their opponents for 63 in 19.3 overs.
