Sri Lanka confirms hosting international powerboating championship

The Sri Lanka Powerboat Association officially announced that it has successfully won the rights to host the opening round of the H20 Racing International Aqua Bike Championship from March 22 to 24, 2019.

Sri Lanka will for the first time enter a team at the race.

To mark the countdown to the event the Lanka Powerboat Association last week hosted an international training course for aqua bikes or jet skiing at the Amagi Aria in Negombo.

All riders must complete the UIM training course, in order to race. The course consists both theoretical and practical modules and instructed by a qualified International UIM Training Commissioner and Instructor.

The course will take a minimum of four days to complete, depending on the riders’ skill level. Once successfully completed the UIM Commissioner will then sign the pupil ‘Ready to Race’ certificate which will be issued with an international race licence.

A first-time local race is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka today.

The UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship is the most acclaimed and prestigious international series that promotes personal watercraft in a competitive racing environment and one of the fastest, most spectacular, demanding and entertaining sports on water.

Each round of the Aquabike World Championship marks four days of breathtaking action, entertainment and spectacular night shows.

It is an event that combines speed, skill, artistry and sheer raw power producing edge-of the-seat racing action and acrobatics.
