Having batted first after winning the toss, the bulk of the host’s frontline batsmen failed to capitalize on opening batsman K.N.M. Fernando’s superb 95 as seven wickets fell for 41 runs in just 12 overs.
Fernando defied the Indian bowling attack overcoming the early setbacks of the first wicket falling with the total on 32, and the second at 33 off 7.3 overs with skipper Nipun Dananjaya Perera running himself out for a first ball duck. Fernando’s 136-ball knock contained 7 boundaries being third out having rallied the side to 134 for 3 off 28.3 overs. After his exit, M.N.K. Fernando stood firm stroking 56 off 68 hitting 05 boundaries and a six. He held up one end but found little assistance as the Indian bowlers made inroads with Sri Lanka Under-19 collapsing to 7 for 197 by the 46th over.
India Under-19 found no terrors in the hosts bowling attack with Jaiswal dictating terms upfront in posting 71 for the first wicket with D. Padikkal who made 38 off 48 containing 6 boundaries. He put on a further 72 for the second wicket with Pawan Shah whose contribution was 36 off 45 with 3 boundaries and a six. Skipper A. Juyal remained unbeaten on 22 off 35 with 2 boundaries in an unbroken 71-run alliance for the third wicket with Jaiswal in 13.4 overs as the visitors romped home.
