Sri Lanka Emerging Team chased down a victory target of 224 runs winning the third and final unofficial 50-over one-day match by two wickets with seven balls to spare in a 3-nil clean sweep over South Africa Emerging Team at the Sinhalese Sports Club grounds on Tuesday.
South Africa Emerging Team, batting first were all out for 223 in 42.3 overs with Jeffrey Vandersay being the pick of the Lankan bowlers claiming 3 for 54. Skipper T. de Zorzi and E. Bosch were joint top scorers scoring 48 apiece for the visitors. Zorzi struck a solitary boundary in a 58-ball knock while Bosch hit four sixes and a boundary in his 54-ball innings.
Sri Lanka Emerging Team’s run case was anchored by opening batsman Sadeera Samarawickrema who top scored with 68 off 106 balls inclusive of 4 boundaries. He was associated in a 61-run second wicket alliance with Charith Asalanka who made 33 off 38 containing 3 boundaries and a six. Although Sri Lanka lost the wickets of P.H.K.D. Mendis and Sammu Ashan cheaply for 4 and 3 respectively with the latter running himself out, Samarawickrema combined with Jehan Daniel who made 50 off 61 with 5 boundaries and a six in posting 74 for the fifth wicket as the pair took the total to 183 when Samarawickrema exited. Daniel was out 10 runs later making it seven wickets for 193 off 42.2, but Chamila Karunaratne scored 11 and Amila Aponso 19 in an unbroken ninth wicket partnership of 29 runs to guide the hosts to victory. E. Bosch was the pick of the South African bowlers taking 3 for 33.
