Sri Lankan swimmer Akalanka Pieris created history when he became the first school boy athlete to do his Advanced level examination on Fridayn at the Jakartha Sri Lankan Embassy in Indonesia.
This is the first time Sri Lankan athlete got chance to sit for the A/L exam . This is the jont effort by National Olympic Committee, Education Ministry as well as Sports Ministry. Maxwell de Silva the Secretary of the NOC said Akalanka had a difficult task weather he has to choose A/L exam or the Asian Games.
“I am very keen to do both Asian Games and A/L exams well. I got nine A’s at my O/L exam and this is going to be a very important exam for me.” said Akalanka, thanking the education ministry and the sports ministry for working together to realise both of objectives.
