Sri Lanka women’s kabbadi team defeated Indonesia 34-17 on Monday (20) at an Asian Games encounter to boost their confidence to play in the next important matches in the tournament.
Tne host Indonesian side came up with huge crowd support but Sri Lankan women controlled well the game from the start to finish first half 17-6. In the second half Sri Lankan once again dominated scoring further 17 points to win the game 34-17.
Sri Lankan acting skipper Kokila Edirisinghe said they were going down in their first match against Thailand. “We lost to Thailand 41-15 but our skipper Madushani was out with leg injury after five minutes from the start” said Kokila. The loss of skipper who opened scoring in the the first match had affected the rest of the team for poor display. “She was our strength but now we had to adjust our game and the face the rest of the matches” a rijuvenated Kokila said that winning against Indonesia was very important.
Sri Lankan women coach Amila Udayanga Tennakoon said we could have won against Thailand but captains injury badly affected the team. “We will take the tourney by match to match and we are hopeful that at least a bronze medal would be won for Sri Lanka” said coach Tennakoon.
