Sri Lankan Baseball team made a fine performances to beat Laos  15/10 points in their opening game of the Asian Games held in Jakartha on Wednesday (22). It was a fantastic team work by Sri Lankans baseballers who were participating for the first time at this Asian Games.
Sri Lankans made an early lead into the match and subsequently gave into some strong comeback by the Laos opponents, but at the end Sri Lankans got better off to record their first international outing victoriously.
After the match, Sri Lankan captain said he was very delighted for his team’s performances in this match. “We had a good game plan and at the middle part of the game we dropped out two key players to rest for Thursday’s important game against Thailand.
Meanwhile in the pool, Sri Lankan 4×100 relay team was disqualified with a foul start in the second lap by Kyle Abeysinghe.
In another match, Sri Lankan Hockey team lost to Korea by 8-0 in their match. Sri Lankan coach Anuruddha Herath Bandara said Korea was a very strong team and they are among the worlds top level teams. Sri Lanka will meet Hong Kong at the same venue on Thursday.
In Taekwondo, Salinda Sampath Liyanage from Sri Lanka Navy had a good start to continueto the second round but failed to beat Uzbekistan player who ranked 7th in the world.
Commonwealth Games silver medallist Indika Dissanayake  was failed to impress in his 63kg weight category at the weight lifting event when he was unable to lift at the clean and jerk event.
The day ended very disappointingly for Sri Lankans women’s 3×3 Basketball team who lost badly to host Indonesia 22/8. It was a one sided affair and Indonesian dominated the game from the start .
