Sri Lanka once again was the topic in the world netball community with the lions being able to grab the title after their fourth attempt being successful at the Asian Championship in 2018 at Singapore. Sri Lanka finished runners-up in all past three championships.
However, with Sri Lanka’s success, the centre of attention was Asia’s tallest netball player, probably also in the world of netball, Tharjini Sivalingam, who finished as the top scorer in the tournament.
6 feet 11 inches tall lass from northern Sri Lanka maintained a success rate of over 93 percent and did the bulk of scoring for Sri Lanka.
Hence, the Sri Lankan victory credit automatically went to shooter Tharjani Shivalingam, being a reliable shooter of the team. But the 31-year-old experienced Tarjini was humble enough to share the credit among the teammates.
Speaking to www.srilankasports.com, Sivalingam said that she was very lucky to play in both 2009 and 2018 teams that were crowned as Asian champions. “sure, my role is to do the bulk of shooting, but it was the rest of the team, who play the hard game to pass me the ball under the basket” said Sivalingam.
“It was a great team work, I know my target success was high in the final, we cannot make mistakes in an important match like this” added Sivalingam.
Tharjini Sivalingam was awarded the best player of the tournament at the Asian Netball Championship for her efforts to help Sri Lanka win the title.
