Indian women romp to nine wicket win over Sri Lanka in first ODI

India Women romped to a 9-wicket triumph over Sri Lanka Women on Tuesday in the first of the 5-match ODI series played at the Galle International Stadium.

Having dismissed the Sri Lankan lasses for 98 in 35.1 overs, the Indian lasses strolled to victory in only 19.5 overs with opening batsman S. Mandhana striking an unbeaten 76 off 73 balls. She struck 11 boundaries and 2 sixes and was associated in a 96-run alliance for the first wicket with P.G. Raut who made 24. Raut was dismissed by Inoka Ranaweera with the visitors within three runs of victory.

Sri Lanka Women, having elected to bat on winning the toss, lost wickets at regular intervals and were 6 for 49 in 20 overs. The only resistance for came from Skipper Chamari Atapattu who top scored with a dour 33 off 93 balls inclusive of 2 boundaries. No.8 Sripalee Weerakkody contributed with 26 off 32 hitting 3 boundaries. Joshi claimed 3 for 16 and J. Goswami 2 for 13.

The Indians found no terrors in the host team’s bowling attack with Mandhana dominating the bowling in chasing down the modest 99-run victory target. Raut’s 24 came off 41 balls containing 2 boundaries.
