Sri Lanka women’s suffer narrow loss against India in the 1st T20 game

Sri Lanka women’s team lost the 1st T20 played against the visiting Indian Women’s team by 13 runs with 3 balls to spare, as they were all out for 155 runs in 19.3 overs.

Chasing a target of 169 to win the game, Lankans started well with Yasodha Mendis and Captain Chamari Atapattu going for a flying start.

Mendis in particular was in flying form, as she raced to 32 runs from 12 balls, which included five boundaries and a six. Mendis fell in the third over, when the score was on 39.

Atapattu continued, but a quick wicket on the other side saw the Lankan scoreboard reading as 41 for 2. A brief partnership between captain and Rebeca Vandort helped Sri Lanka raise to 70 runs in seven overs, but the departure of Vandort and Atapattu in quick succession, stalled the progress of the home team.

Hard hitting Eshani Lokusooriya continued the assault on the opposition side with the help of N. De Silva and Kavisha Dilhari, who made 12 and 11 respectively. Lokusuriya was looking good and hammered 45 runs from 31 balls. Her knock included 5 boundaries and a six. However Sri Lanka fell short of 13 runs, as rest of the batswomen struggled to keep the space.

Poonam Yadav of India captured wickets for 26 runs.

Earlier in the day, T. Bhatia of India scored 46 runs, while Jemima Rodrigues and A. Patil contributed 36 runs each to help India score 168 runs from 20 overs.
