U19 Asia Cup: Sri Lanka beats Bangladesh by six wickets

Sri Lanka Under 19 team started its Under 19 Asia Cup journey with success, when they beat Bangladesh by 4 wickets today, in their first game of the tournament, played in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Chasing a target of 145 to win, Sri Lanka lost three quick wickets for 28 runs, however, a 90 run partnership between Nuwanidu Fernando and Pasindu Sooriyabandara brought the Lankans back on track. Fernando; top scored with a 64 run knock from 94 deliveries, while Sooriyabandara scored 36 runs from 92 balls.’

Sri Lanka reached the target in 37.5 overs for the loss of one wicket. Nuwanidu Fernando was the player of the match.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka won the toss and asked Bangladesh to bat first. However, Bangladeshis struggled from the word go, with the first two wickets going down quickly and the scoreboard read as 17 runs for the loss two wickets. After a brief partnership, the third wicket fell at 62 and the 4th wicket at 95. From there on-wards, Bangladeshis lost regular wickets and was all out for 141 runs in 46.4 overs.

In bowling for the Lankans; Shashika Dulshan bowled an impressive spell of 10 overs conceding just 11 runs and grabbed two wickets.

Kalhara Seneratne, captured two wickets for 31 runs, bowling 9.4 overs, while Dunith Nethmika captured 2 wickets for 21 runs, conceded in 8 overs.

Sri Lanka is in the Group ‘’B’’ of the ongoing Under 19 Asia Cup.
