Colombo schools get cricket gears on World Children’s Day

Many schools from Colombo region received cricket gears from the Colombo district cricket Association today (October 1st) at the Duncan White Auditorium Sport Ministry. Sport Minister Faizer Mustafa was the chief guest on this occasion to distribute cricket gears among as many as  35 schools from Colombo and suburbs. In addition to Colombo, schools from Sri Jayawardenapura, Piliyandala and Homagama region too received their cricket gears.

“Involvement in sports makes children healthier and with less stress on education. That’s why we wanted to encourage students to get into sports as an important extra curricular activity.” said sports minister Faizer Mustapha

The cricket gear bags worth of 2.5 million rupees were distributed among 35 schools that included some girls schools too. Bandula Dissanayake, the secretary of the Colombo district cricket Association said that they were very keen to associate with the Sport Ministry to donate these cricket gears.

“Development of cricket should be assisted at schools levels for a better national team for tomorrow, although we are having a bad run at national level at present” said Bandula Dissanayake.

In the list of girls schools to receive cricket gears were Nugegoda Anula Vidyalaya, Milagiriya St Paul’s Convent and and Girls’ High School at Mt Lavinia.
