World Junior Badminton: SL shuttlers win over Kenya and Faroe Islands

Sri Lanka junior Badminton players are staging a good performances in the World  Badminton Championships which is now in progress at Markham Pan Am Centre Torento in Canada.
All 13 Sri Lankan players who are vying for the championship have entered the main draw with defeating Kenya, Faroe Islands and also received walk-over from Algeria at the round robin matches. Sri Lankan junior shuttlers started their quest against India in this tournament and lost to India 5-0  loosing two singles, two doubles and mixed double match respectively.
However Sri Lankan team came back strongly to beat Kenya team 5-0 and defeated  Faroe Islands 5-0  and enjoyed a walk-over from Algeria to finish second place in the group “E”  only behind to India.
Thus, Sri Lankan team advanced to the next league round with these victories and they also scheduled to play individual events in this world junior tournament. Chameera Kumarapperuma also joined the team as Sri Lankan coach while Richmond College Principal Sampath Weragoda who also the President of the Sri Lanka schools Badminton Association is with the team as Manager while Sujeewa de Silva also with the team as Lady Chaperon.

Dumindu Abeywickrama, Chirath Illeperumarachchi, Chamath Dias, Sewmina Gunatilleka, Gavin Morogoda, Nadun Punchihewa, Dilmi Dias, Jananuwani Amanda, Hasini Ambalangodage, Anurangi Masakorala, Tanushi Ratnayaka, Vishmi Edirisinghe, Manuki Chandrasekara, Chameera Kumarapperuma (coach) Sampath Weragoda (Manager), Sujeewa de Silva (Lady Chaperon)
Results:
Sri Lankan Dumindu Abeywickrama  played men,s singles  event defeated  Meer  Solonki with hard fought three setter game 17-21/21/14.21/8 while Dilmi Dias beat Shane Patel with two straight sets  21-1, 21-4 at the women,s singles. Jananuwani Masakorala and Hasini Ambalangodage  beat Krisha Ghia and Swtane Patel 21/12. 21/9  at the women’s doubles.
At the men,s  doubles Chamath Dias and Chirath Illeperumarachchi  beat Ujan Shah and Meer Solonki  21/10 , 21/13 while mixed double event won by Dilmi Dias and Sewantha Gunathilleka  defeating Krisha  Ghia and Ujval Shah 21/5 21/6 to get 5-0 lead over Kenya team.
Meanwhile Faroe Island  shuttlers had to face more difficulties over Sri Lankans and loosing all five matches in their E” group matches . Dumindu Abeuwickrama beat Jonas  Djurhuus 21/12, 21/19  while womnes singles won by Dilmi Dias defeating Alma Peterson  21/8, 21/8  with out any fight . Sewmina Gunatilleka and Gavin Moragoda defeated  deteated Arnt Myrani and A.M Jakobson 21/11, 21/16  at the men,s doubles while Jananuwani Amanda and Hasini Ambalangodage defeated Almi Kensoottr and Sissai Thomsen at the women’s doubles 21/7, 21/16 while mixed double event won by Chamath Dias and Dilmi Dias  defeating A.Myrini  and L.M Johnson 21/10, 21/5.
