Charith Asalanka, the uncapped all rounder has been recalled to the test squad as a replacement to injured skipper Dinesh Chandimal who is most probably will be out of the remainder of the three match test series against Engalnd. Chandimal’s deputy Suranga Lakmal will lead the team for the next two tests against England.
Reliable sources confirmed that Roshen Silva, the middle order batsman will most probably play for the Chandimal’s position while newcomer Charith Asalanka would directly make it to the final XI of the second test in place of Dhananjaya de Silva who is nursing a finger injury.
Thus, 21 year old Asalanka will get his debut test at Pallekele which start from 14th November.
Former Richmond College and National under 19 skipper Asalanka was named best batsman of the Mercantile cricket tournament last week after scoring a superb 68 in the second warm up match against England at CCC grounds. He is also the captain of the SSC in this ongoing Emerging trophy tournament and scored 62 not out as the number three batsman against Ragama CC.
Meanwhile Malinda Pushpakumara will replace for retired Rangana Herath while Akila Dhananjaya has been reported for a suspect bowling action by the ICC during the first test.
Charith Senanayake the Sri Lanka Manager also tendered his resignation due to personal reason and SLC appointed Jeryl Wautersz with immediate effort for the vacated post of manager of the Sri Lankan cricket team..
