Having lost the first test by 211 runs and skipper Dinesh Chandimal for a groin injury, Sri Lanka will hope to make a comeback under the leadership of Suranga Lakmal who had been successful as a stand in captain in previous occasions.
“The second test against England at Pallekele is very crucial for the whole team to stay alive in the series and we are confident we can make a come back with a good team effort” said stand in Sri Lanka captain Suranga Lakmal at the pre match media conference held at Pallekele cricket stadium.
Lakmal, a lucky test captain who won the last series against South Africa said after we lost the first test all my players are working hard to win this game. “We will take a positive approach with a a strong mentality. I think our batsman have not lived up to the expectation and we discussed that matter and are taking them to practice with a good plan” said Lakmal.
“We will have two new batsman Roshane Silva and uncapped Charith Asalanka for injured Chandimal while Lakshan Sandaken and Malinga Pushpakumara for retired Rangana Herath. But we are not yet finalised the final eleven and it will be named after the team meeting” explained Lakmal.
According to Lakmal, more emphasis have been put on the batsmen and the team expect that Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews will anchor the batting line up.
The news about Akila Dhananjaya being reported to the ICC for a suspect bowling action has been a concern in the camp. “Akila Dhananjaya was reported for suspect bowling action, but that’s not an issue to bowl in this match and I am sure he will clear himself very soon.” said a confident Lakmal.
