Sinhalese Sports Club will unveil a plaque to celebrate former great Muttiah Muralitharan’s World Record at the ground premises.
Former Manager to the Sri Lankan cricket team and SCC stalwart Michael De Zoysa said the plaque will be unveiled on Sunday (Nov 25) during the third Test match between Sri Lanka and England. SSC grounds has been one of Murali’s hunting venues with most of the wickets being picked.
Muttiah Muralitharan, the world record off-spinner with 800 test wickets claimed 166 Test wickets at SSC and this is also a World Record at a single test venue. Murali was witnessed at Galle Test versus England where Rangana Herath retired from the test cricket after taking 433 wickets. Herath too finished with 102 test wickets at Galle stadium, which is the Rangana’s favourite test venue in his 19-year test carrier.
Apart from the Murali only two other bowlers – James Anderson from England (103 wickets at Lord’s) and Rangana Herath (102 wickets at Galle) have taken more than 100 wickets at a single test venue. Apart from his rich haul at SSC, Murali also has taken 117 wickets at Asgiriya and 111 wickets at Galle.
