Former chairman of selectors and paceman Asantha de Mel is tipped to take over the cricket selection committee, reliable sources confirmed.
De Mel will chair the selections of the national cricket team with coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and Gamini Wickremesinghe would continue their role in selections. Former opening batsman and selector Chaminda Mendis too will make it to the committee.
When contacted by www.srilankasports.com, the officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket declined to comment while the minister of sports Faizer Musthapa said that it was not his duty to change the national selectors of SLC. “I reiterate that I am not the head of Sri Lanka Cricket, I am only the Minister of Sports and there is a committee to look over the affairs of Sri Lanka Cricket.” minister replied.
Graham Labrooy, the present chairman of the cricket selectors is currently officiating in the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup in the Caribbeans and yet to return to the island shortly.
