Semi-finalists found in U-20 Football Tourney

Maris Stella College, Hameed Al Husseine College Colombo, St. Joseph’s College Colombo and St. Patrick’s College Jaffna qualified for the semi-finals of the Sri Lanka Schools Under-20 Invitation Football Tournament by winning their respective quarter-final matches worked off at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

In the first quarter-final St. Joseph’s beat their traditional rivals St. Peter’s 2-1 with Chamath Rashmith and Kavinda Rupasinghe scoring a goal each. S. Rasonia netted the solitary goal for the Peterites.

In the second quarter-final, St. Patrick’s edged-out Zahira College, Colombo 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a 3-3 draw.

In the third quarter-final, Maris Stella defeated Mahajana College, Jaffna 2-0 with P.R.M. Fernando and M.N.T. Silva scoring a goal each.

In the fourth quarter-final, Hameed al Husseine College beat Zahira College, Gampola 2-0 with M.A.T.M. Rishan and M.S.M. Aman doing the scoring.

Meanwhile, the semi-finals of the tournament will be worked off on December 14 at the same venue. St. Patrick’s will meet Hameed al Husseine College while St. Joseph’s will confront Maris Stella in the two semi-finals.

The final of the tournament will be played on December 16 at the same venue.
