Muttaih Muralitharan, the record breaking off spinner in world cricket in his cricketing days was fittingly felicitated by Sinhalese Sports Club on Sunday evening for his 167 wickets at SSC, which was the highest by a bowler at a single test venue.
Tommy Ellawala the President of SSC presented a special replica to mark the launch of special Murali plaque after the third day of the England test match. Both Sri Lanka and England cricket players were present on this occasion while SSC members and Kumar Sangakkara cheerleader Percy Abeysekera and Sports Minister Faizer Mustafa and SLC CEO Ashley de Silva were among the guests.
Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Muralitharan said he was very happy to take part for this occasion and really appreciated SSC for the launch of the special plaque in his name. “I was really enjoying those days when playing test matches at SSC. I have good memories in this venue.” added Muralitharan.
SSC Manager Micheal de Soyza said we have seen so many spinners like Jim Laker, Derek Underwood, Shane Warne and many more spinner playing in this ground and he insisted that Murali was the best among all.
