Hatton National Bank led by Pabasara Gunasekara emerged champions with an unbeaten record at the National Netball championships when they beat Air Force led by Chaturangi Jayasuriya 47-27 at the final held at Albert. F. Peris Stadium Wennapuwa. It was a fine team effort by HNB side coached by Shashika Samarasinghe to crown the title.
From the first quarter HNB players made a good attack with making 10-7 lead while they moved ahead with confidence to increase their total to finish 22-14 at half time after making a good display of passes especially from the centre Gayanjali Amarasinghe, an experienced player from the National side, In the third quarter HNB led with 35-21 while final quarter HNB ENSURE their championship with adding more 12 points and score read 47-27 to finish the game.
Kumarini de Silva, Gayani Dissanayake the goal attack players Dharshika Abeywickrama who is the vice captain of the National side ,centre Gayanjali Amarawansa all having International experience came up with good performance while S.Umanga,Anjali Perera and skipper Pabasara Gunasekara make good supporting role to win the major title.. Former National captain Shashika Samarasinghe was the lady behind the team with a well-supported th as coach throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile third place match won by Seylan Bank with their opponent Army SC was not played due to objection made by Air Force SC . In fact reliable sources said one school player was included for the Army side and that was the reason to gave this punishment for the Army side . However in the league round Seylan Bank beat Army team.
Dialog Axiata PLC has came forward to sponsor this inaugural indoor National championships while Amali Nanayakkara Group Chief Marketing Officer Dialog and its Senior General Manager Brand and Media Harsha Samaranayake were the chief Guests and gave away the awards.
