The Young Reporters Programme (YRP), by the Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI), got underway with the opening ceremony yesterday (12), with the participation of five countries including Sri Lanka, at Bhubaneswar, India
The inauguration saw Asit Kumar Tripathy, Development Commissioner and Chief Secretary, gracing the opening ceremony, as the Chief guest.
Coordinator of the programme, Vice President of AIPS Asia, and brainchild of this concept, Saba Nayakan speaking said, “I wanted to get this up and running, in order to, develop the attitudes of Indian and subcontinental young reporters in sports journalism”
It’s noteworthy, that amongst the scores of participants, two Lankan scribes, Pranavesh and Yusuf, were nominated through the Sri Lanka Sports’ Writers Association (SLSWA) and www.srilankasports.com to represent their nation.
This training and coaching programme, has brought on-board 30 young blood, having a deep desire over various sports reporting. The first of its kind, will be running till Sunday (16), coinciding with the Men’s Hockey World Cup, at Bhubaneshwar, too. The other countries’ have that have joined hands are, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangaldesh and host, India.
The almost a week event, will be aimed at touching on digital and print sports-based reporting.
