Sri Lanka’s newly appointed Spots Minister Harin Fernando had visited International Cricket Council’s Dubai office to discuss the fate of Sri Lanka Cricket for its future. Soon after his appointment, Minister Fernando spoke out that he would want to hand over the cricket administration to an Interim Committee, at a time when the nominations had been closed for scheduled cricket elections on February 09.
During his visit to ICC’s head office in Dubai, Sri Lankan sports minister had met ICC’s Anti Corruption Unit officer in charge for Sri Lanka Cricket and the sources closed to the minister Fernando confirmed that the discussions were positive and the minister would make a public announcement in his return to the country.
Earlier this week, Minister Harin Fernando said thatĀ he would come forward to bat in defence of Sri Lanka Cricket against the charges of the ICC Anti Corruption Unit adding that SLC had been branded as the most corrupted cricketing nation in Asia. “I want to first discuss the pending issues with regard to corruption at SLC with the ICC. We have to make ourselves clear and then only we can go for cricket elections” said HarinĀ Fernado, affirming that he would as ICC’s permission to reinstate an Interim Committee in place for cricket administration.
