Consolation win for Sri Lanka Under 19 – beat Australia by 64 runs

Sri Lanka pulled off a 64-run win in the third and final under 19 ODI against Australia played at the P Sara Oval yesterday but the visitors however clinched the three-match series 2-1.

A well-crafted 71 from Nipun Dananjaya and a half century from Sonal Dinusha guided the home side to a total of 256-8 batting first.

Dananjaya faced 80 balls for his 71 that included 4 fours and 2 sixes and Dinusha scored 50 of 68 balls with six fours.

In Australia’s run chase Sudeera Thilakaratne put the brakes on their batting with a fine display of slow left-arm bowling taking 4-34 from his 9.3 overs.

This was despite a composed 60 off 51 balls from Baxter J Holt ably supported by Tanveer Sangha 39 off 69 balls. Australia were bowled out for 192 in the 47th over.

The under 19 Youth Test between the two teams will be played from 10 to 12 at SSC grounds.
