Getting 200 runs in one innings is not an easy task for any batsman. How could one imagine repeating the same with two double hundreds in both innings, which is a remarkable achievement? Sri Lanka right-hander Angelo Perera did this rare achievement and also set up new Sri Lanka record at the Premier league cricket fixture at the P.Sara Oval grounds where the first test of Sri Lanka played  at this same venue against England in 1982.

In-form Sri Lankan batsman and NCC captain Angelo Perera, who will celebrate his 29th birthday on 23rd of February is tipped to enjoy it in grand style as he is tipped to make his test debut for the second test against South Africa at George’s Park in Port Elizabeth from 21st of February.

“I had a dream to enter the test team and with this ambition, I worked really hard with some strenuous practice session and scored runs in the past premier league and as a result, I have been called to the squad for the South African tour” said Perera in an exclusive interview to www.srilankasports.com

“I already played 4 one day Internationals and two t-20 games but never got a chance to play in the test cricket with the national team. so I had a plan to enter the test team and I worked hard accordingly” added Angelo Perera saying that he is willing to play in any format of cricket but playing test cricket for the country was very special to him.

Angelo Perera has been among runs in the recent scoring heavily in the club season with a few centuries and two double tons. He also played an anchor role in Sri Lanka A team in its recent success. Perera considered that this was the best season for him and it is important for him to enter the national team when as an in-form cricketer.

While scoring two doubles centuries for his club NCC Angelo Perera was unaware of it as a rare record . This has happened for only for the second time in recorded history, the other way back in 1938, when Kent batsman Arthur Fagg, then 23, struck 244 and 202 not out against Essex, in Colchester.

“I was not aware of this feat, That means now I am the second batsman to do that and I am really proud of it. As the NCC Captain I did this achievement against more talented SSC side.” said a thankful Perera tributing his success to all the members of his club and the coaching staff. Perera extended special thanks to his two club coaches Ruwin Peiris and Duminda Perera, both of them for assisting him to make a few but important technical changes in his batting which had proven to be of immense success for him.
