Lankan netball team for World Cup picked

The Netball Federation of Sri Lanka(NFSL) officially announced the 12 member team for the forthcoming Netball World cup to be held in Liverpool in July.

The selection trials were held last week and names were announced yesterday after approved by the Minister of Sports Harin Fernando. NFSL has retained almost the same squad that became the undisputed Champions at the Asian Netball Championship in 2018 with the exception of one player. The only change being Deepika Darshani replacing Sureka Gamage.

The team will be led by Asian Winning captain Chathurangi Jayasooriya and Thilaka Jinadasa as the Head Coach.

The selection committee was headed by the former national player Pathma Beththwala along with Sakuthala Wejeyatunge and Seetha Ramani who were members of the committee. The selection committee also picked the final 15 members of the Junior squad yesterday at Nawalapitiya at the final selection trial and selected names will be sent to Minister of Sports for approval.
